I had not been to Mother since pre-COVID. The food was always delicious but the space was small. I was pleasantly surprised when I visited their new location on K Street today. It is spacious, brightly decorated and the food is still all things, fresh and amazing! One of my friends asked how is your food? I replied, it's like a party in my mouth! I will be back again & again!
I've been wanting to try Mother at their new K Street location since I heard they were re-opening. I went with a friend who is vegan and we both were a bit skeptical based on experiences at their previous location. However, we were both pleasantly surprised with the items with the menu and the food. We started our meal with their soup of the day, creamy white bean with rosemary. We also shared an appetizer of grilled shishito peppers. For our main course, my friend ordered the mushroom Po'boy sandwich and I got a golden beet tostada. We also got broccolini adobo and grilled summer squash to share. The soup was creamy without being too heavy. The shishito peppers were lightly roasted which brought out sweet and smoky flavors. The summer squash came with grilled apricots, which added a sweet touch to the savory dish. The broccolini with adobo sauce worked very well together. I had my doubts because adobo sauce is usually very salty, but Mother's version was spiced to compliment the vegetable. What I loved about all the dishes was being able to truly taste the fresh ingredients because they weren't overpowered by heavy sauces or creams. We left full and satisfied without feeling stuffed. Service was efficient and friendly. Our food came out in a timely manner and the server came around to check on us. We didn't ever feel like we had to ask for anything. All in all, it was positive re-introduction to the new Mother restaurant. I'll definitely be back soon.
While walking through Sacramento, we stumbled upon Mother Restaurant and were intrigued once we realized they offer vegan options, so we decided to give it a try. To our surprise, the food really hit the spot. We visited during a slow lunch hour, which allowed us to enjoy our meal without feeling rushed. The atmosphere was relaxed. We decided to share the oyster mushroom po'boy and the eggplant dish ( I forgot the name of the item), and both dishes were absolutely fantastic. We had a hard time deciding which one was our favorite because each was so flavorful in its own way. .It's a great find in Sacramento, especially for anyone looking for tasty vegan options.
The name says it all. Mother is such a great find in Sac for a unique meal that's accommodating to your whole party's dietary preferences and restrictions. We wanted to try a little bit of a lot of items, so we ordered the Po'Boy sandwich, the Fava-oli, the broccolini, the turmeric hummus, and the wedge fries. Everything was delicious! A favorite was definitely the Po'Boy sandwich. It's popular for a reason. The flavor of the ouster mushroom itself combined with the crispy onions and their hot sauce is a great combination. I also really Loved their turmeric hummus and broccolini Adobo. The simplicity of the dishes truly doesn't matter because they are so well executed. Highly recommend as apps for the table! I wasn't the biggest fan of the Fava-oli but it was a big hit with other members of my party. If you enjoy a lighter and more lemony pasta with peas, this is definitely for you. Overall, we had a great experience here celebrating a birthday and we'll definitely be back!
New location feels a lot more spacious than the previous one. A little warm inside for a restaurant but not too uncomfortable. The Sunflower Pesto pasta with trumpet mushrooms was absolutely delicious. I'm a meat eater and I didn't miss the lack of meat one bit with this dish. Staff was friendly but not very attentive. Our server never came back to check on us after our food was delivered and we had to wait quite awhile until a different server noticed us just sitting and offered to bring our check to us. Our table was very wobbly and made it difficult to eat. The food itself was 5 stars, the service needs some improvement.
We were initially hesitant to try Mother due to its all-vegetarian menu, but given the limited options for vegetable-based restaurants, we decided to give it a shot. Upon arrival, we were promptly seated outside, where we enjoyed a lovely atmosphere perfect for people-watching, nestled under beautiful trees in the charming area of midtown. For our meal, we ordered broccolini, cabbage in a coconut lime sauce, potato wedges, and their spinach and ricotta pie. The broccolini was an absolute delight, bursting with flavor. While the cabbage had a slightly sour taste, the hint of coconut flavor added a delicious twist to the dish. Unfortunately, the potato wedges lacked flavor and were rather bland. However, the spinach and ricotta pie was warm, crispy, and thoroughly enjoyable. Lastly, our service was incredible. Our waiter helped us choose our options and was very attentive. Overall, despite a few misses, our experience at Mother was positive, and I definitely plan on returning.
My house is under construction for a few days and I wont be able to cook! I was gifted a Mother gift certificate a few months ago so I ordered takeout. Ordering online was a breeze. The restaurant is really cute. The service super friendly. They accommodated my special requests. I will eat in and take my friends next time. I tried the vegan chili. I liked the texture. It was hearty and spicy. I didn't miss having meat in the chili. I also had the kale salad and farro salad. They were awesome. There were so many textures and super fresh ingredients. The basil salad dressing was incredible. Great food and experience.
I have missed Mother since the original K street location closed. I worked across the street and would frequent it often. I love the range of vegan and vegetarian options they provide. Some friends and I had to switch our Thursday play date at Cap Stage to Saturday, so we decided to branch out for dinner. Mother is located where Skool Japanese was. The iconic wooden benches from the K Street location have migrated and reproduced, mixed with colorful and bright neon, wallpaper and art. Mother's menu is not huge, but it changes seasonally and contains many crowd pleasers. I opted for the Oyster Mushroom Po' Boy Sandwich- loving the play on the name. The mushrooms were fried perfectly and the overall result was a delicious sandwich thanks to the remoulade and coriander pickles. The special dessert of the day was a cardamom creme brulee, which was just divine. I shared it with the table because it was too rich to eat solo after a decadent fried sandwich. I am so pleased to see Mother thriving just a bit up the road. In a town like Sacrament surrounded by the best and freshest produce imaginable, it's a great option that goes way beyond rabbit food.
While I had known Mother was back in Sacramento I hadnt been able to visit. But thank goodness they are back with their staples and classics and just down the street from their previous location. The mushroom po'boy is always a great choice and the additions of the chips is chef kiss. The sandwich is a great size and easily shareable. The mushrooms are fried and seasoned in a great blend, and the lettuce and cucumbers are a fresh addition. The fried chips are light and crunchy with a seasoning that resembles BBQ chips. My partner ordered the special pasta on the menu and we ordered a side of potato wedges with a great dipping sauce. Staff was very nice and welcoming, checking in at the appropriate times.
